Internship

An "internship" is an opportunity offered by an employer to potential employees to work for a limited period of time.
Interns are typically college or university students, they can also be high school students or post-graduate adults or even adults interested in trying a new career.
The primary focus is getting what’s learned in the classroom and applying it to the real world, most internships last for any length of time between one week and 12 months.

They may be part-time or full-time, and may be paid, unpaid or partially paid.

They are usually part-time if offered during university time and full-time if offered during holidays, when they typically last 4-12 weeks. Placements are usually full-time, and take place irrespective of term time or holiday time.

Benefits of an Internship:

  • Gain experience in a particular field or industry, by applying methods and theories learned in classes
  • Create a network of contacts, with professionals in your field, for references and future job opportunities
  • Gain university module credits
  • Develop specific areas of expertise, develop new skills and refine others
  • Gain confidence in your abilities
  • Increase marketability to employers.
  • Facilitate a higher starting salary than non-interns. In a recent study interns received, on average, $2,240 more than non-interns for starting salary
